Do you know of any people who commute from the Palm Springs area to Riverside for work? I see thousands of cars daily making the trip, but I can't seem to find any professional people who want to carpool. Am I the only one that makes this daily trek??

I do it - La Quinta to Riverside (and OC and LA) and back again. Every day. I am a professional, but unfortunately, I don't have carpool hours.

I don't even live in the Mojave Desert, but since I'm on this thread and forum I can't help but ask: Are you crazy? Why not just live in Western Riverside County? You must really love living out in the desert, and not that I'm knocking that at all, either.

Anyway, that would be like me driving from Redwood City (where I live) to Vacaville or Stockton's south side.

Welcome to California.

And where TT lives is the Coachella Valley, not the Mojave Desert.

Mojave Desert?????

It's not like I live out in Boron or anything ...

Riverside to La Quinta (and vice versa) is about an hour one way, and yes, I drive fast, and yes, I have a radar detector.

Oh, and one more thing ...

When the economy picks up and I don't have to give my house away for a song and a prayer, I plan to move to an area in Riverside called Hawarden Hills, but I'm not giving my crib away just to be closer to work.

At least it isn't gridlock the entire way, a la many other 1-hour commutes in Southern CA.

I have to commute to Riverside and SB from the Imperial Valley sometimes, and thats a 3 hour commute. But it isn't daily. I WISH I had a one hour commute from the Coachella Valley. But in Cali, if the commute isn't bad traffic wise, you can save money by earning more and living cheaply. And if it isn't daily, it isn't all that bad. But in general, most people would ideally like to live near their job and if possible I would like to live closer, but I am a freelance court interpreter so I work all over Socal from AZ to LA so you end up doing what works for you.

Concerns about giving away a home in the Coachella Valley would, it seems, be balanced by being able to get a better price on a home in Hawarden Hills, one of Riverside's nicer areas. So unless the desert home is a mansion, it probably is worth less than a comparable Hawarden home anyway.

It's just alot of miles. I rather do alot of miles than get stuck in commute traffic the entire time.
