I know Ontario, CA very well. Safe place to live. Close to all amenities incluing Ontario Airport. Lots of apartments and houses. Expect to pay about 12-1400 for a 2 bedroom apartment in a key gated complex. Every restaurant you have ever wanted Your salary would allow you to live very well.

Ontario is part of a large (well, huge) urban area stretching from L.A. to San Bernardino. Even if you work in Ontario, you could, depending on your budget, the amount you're willing to commute, etc. live in communities such as Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Fontana, etc., etc., etc. $56k doesn't sound like much for buying a home in one of the nicer areas, but not sure if you'll be buying or renting, and what your requirements are. I'd keep doing research and, in the meanwhile, contact some realtors (if buying) or property management companies (if renting), which are sometimes part of a real estate company They can give you a more specific idea of what you could buy or rent at this time for whatever housing budget you can afford (we know your total income, but how much do you feel you can spend on housing?).. My sister lives in Upland, so I've visited the area for years. I like Ontario Airport, but it's lost a lot of passengers and there's talk of closing one of the terminals. You can get from Ontario to L.A. or San Bernardino by Metrolink commuter trail. And an easy drive to mountain areas for hiking or skiing.

I worked in Ontario for 5 years and I wouldn't recommend living there. Rancho Cucamonga is the most logical choice but if you're willing expand your commute time there are a lot more options. On $56k you can swing $1200-1300 a month for a 1BR which will get you a pretty nice apartment in a good area.

Ontario is big enough to have areas that vary widely in terms of safety, quality of streets and homes, and budget, etc. I got the impression that north of I-10 is better than south, but that's a generalization.

Not really, there's some pretty scary areas north of I10 west of Vineyard. The only places I'd live in Ontario are some of the apartment complexes on 4th St. that border Rancho Cucamonga (Ontario on the south side of 4th St.; RC on the north side.) I would focus my efforts on Rancho Cucamonga because of its close proximity and abundance of nice apartments.

Where are you moving from? Ontario would be my last choice as a town to live in...Look into Upland or Rancho Cucamonga. I lived 3 years in Ontario and 23 in Chino....The winds blow extremely hard in South Ontario and I just hated it...

Like they've been blowing for the past two weeks with just a few random days respite.
