I was at a storage unit auction in San Bernardino ( off of Waterman) and they had units with people living in them.

Yes the facilities manager knew ( even though she pretended not to).

I've been to other storage auctions where it looked like people might have lived in them ( matresses and bedding laid on the floor and the interior decorated).

This is the first one I've seen with a partial wall built in front ( behind the slide up door) decorations, a living area and 2 people inside.

It was right next to another unit being auctioned and was mistaken for another to be auctioned. It's commom practice to open several units at a time if they're near to another to speed up an auction. They also had another one there that was partially open for ventilation with a board with a no trespassing sighn in front of it.

Recently they had a person that was living in a storage unit in San Bernardino that passed away in one.SAN BERNARDINO: Man found dead in storage unit | Breaking News | PE.com - Press-Enterprise

Needless to say I won't be going to another auction at this place.

Oh ... for climate controlled, that's gonna bump the rent up a little bit.

I knew someone who was homeless for a short time. She slept in a storage unit during the day (they were closed at night) and rode the night owl buses at night.

It's sad to realize that the American economy has reached the place where so many people are homeless (and/or living in cars, storage units and tents in the woods). This may be the modern version of the 'Hooverville' tent cities during the Great Depression.

We all need to keep an eye on the opportunities that cross our paths to help those less fortunate ... both directly as we are able and indirectly through our vote, voice and personal influence.
