I'm about to be a 1st time renter (hopefully) soon, so I have no idea how much water, gas, etc. is for 1 person & I want to know as closely as possible how much my grand total will be every month. Could someone please give me some ITEMIZED amounts I'll pay in total for each thing for one person to rent an apt in Rancho Cucamonga? I'm trying to have the rent be from $1150 - $1225. Thank you so much!

Water
Trash
Gas
Electricity

Are there any more necessities than what I listed above?

What's the cheapest cable & internet? DirecTV, Charter, etc? I'm going to try not to have a landline phone anymore. Hopefully my cell will be enough. I already know about car ins, gas for car, & food.

If you're renting an apartment, water and trash are usually included in your rent.

Electricity and gas can vary wildly from household to household, depending on your habits. I might use very little, and you might use a lot, or vice versa, so my numbers would most likely be useless to you. If you're really curious, call the electric or gas company and ask them what their average monthly bill is - and maybe you'll get a sympathetic clerk willing to give you an average, for the area.

I live in a house and gas is used for cooking, water heating, clothes drying and house heating. My bill is never over 10 bucks, but that's probably because I don't like a heated house. Even with my water heater turned up as high as it goes, my bill is still small.

When I rented in Rancho in 2003-2004,

-water was cheap, like $20
-trash was free (dumpster)
-no gas
-electricity was like $60ish

Some apartments complexes require you use their contracted cable company. I've had DirecTV since 2005, and swear by it. Could be as low as $60.

I hope this has changed since then, but if you decide to live north of the 210, make sure your unit has cell service before you sign the lease. Mine didn't, and I needed a landline, if I didn't have one, I would have been unreachable.

I rent a 1BR apartment in Chino Hills and pay:

Water/Trash/Sewage - $40/mo.
Gas (Heat/Hot Water/Dryer) - $20-25/mo.
Electric - $30-35/mo.

Those are averages, the cost to heat and cool varies quite a bit by season. I don't use A/C very much BTW so adjust your average electric bill up $5-10/mo if you do. If the apartment is electrically heated your electric bill will be much higher Dec-Mar.

Just to provide some perspective, I know people who pay $300 or more a month for electricity - in summer there's air conditioning, and in winter, heat - and they want to keep their homes "comfortable."

If you don't mind putting on a sweater in winter, and wearing very little in summer, you can keep your electricity use down - but that can be hard when it's really hot and really cold.

Another thing to consider in an apartment, if you're on the second floor you may not have to run your heat at all - since heat rises, and so your downstairs neighbors may heat your place accidently. Conversely, in summer if you live on the lower level, you may not need as much air conditioning - if your upstairs neighbor keeps their place cool, that will go a long way to keeping your apartment cool.

Like I said, lots of variables!

Thanks for this info bouncethelight. I plan to live on the highest floor of the complex, which is the 3rd floor, so at least no one's above me.

So, it looks like I'll need a god $2000 to move in...if the apt's about $1125 - $1200/mo.
