We have Empire coming in today to give us a quote to install carpet (400 sq. ft) and engineered hardwood (700 sq. ft) in our home. Does anyone have any experience using them? Any suggestions on any local places that are competitively priced?

Thanks for all the help.

I wish I had info but I am thinking about the same thing. The only upgrade I have not done to our house is the carpet. I hope someone responds to the OP's question.

I had empire out last night. The sales person was very nice but the price seems very high. They wanted $9200 to do the the carpet and wood ($2400 for carpet and $7000 for wood). I had some luck and was able to schedule lumber liquidators to come and give a quote for installing the wood we found in store a couple weeks ago. With materials and labor, lumber liquidators came out to $4145. We also priced out carpet from a local shop and that came out to $1200 installed.

We are comparing similar products and can't imagaine quality to make up the price difference. Looks like we'll be buying the wood from lumber liquidators and having them install it. And having the local carpet shop do the carpet.

Beware of LL. They have a bad reputation.

In what way? Product quality, installation, follow up? The salesperson at the store seemed nice enough and knowledgable. I have read a lot of negative reviews about them but I always feel like that a majority of the time only negative experiences get blasted online.

Did you have a personally bad experience with them? Or know someone that used them and were unhappy? I'd love to know before we pull the trigger.

Thanks,

Most of the wood you get is shorts. The pieces so small that no other company can sell them. Very bad customer service after the sale.

We had 900 sf of new carpet installed last month (the entire house except bathroom, kitchen, and hall). The men removed all the furniture from upstairs and downstairs (including taking apart 4 beds) to the detached garage, removed and carted off old carpet, vacuumed throughout, installed new carpet (including 12 steps of the staircases), brought back furniture, put the 4 beds back together, then vacuumed throughout again. It took 2 men and 20+ hrs. We paid $2740 including tax. It's barefoot quality carpet.

We did not use Empire though. I don't think we're allowed to recommend a specific company on CD forum.

We can recommend restaurants with no problem. Why not flooring?
