Help. My husband and I are moving to san bernardino shortly because he just got a job by the san bernardino airport. I've been searching online for suggestions on where to live but most of the posts I'm seeing were from last year. Not sure if there are any improvements since then because I'm reading that san bernardino is not really the best place to live in. any suggestions on which area (if any) would be a safe place for us to stay in? I would like to be as far as possible to the gangs/drugs & high crime area. We have friends who live in glendale but that's over 60 miles from the airport & gas price isn't cheap. Any suggestions please.

Try searching for threads on Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Claremont, San Dimas, etc. All much closer than Glendale!

I can't comment on the residential aspects of ONT. I'm just not familiar with that part of it. There are some tidy looking apartment complexes in N ONT across from where I bank and buy dog food, but that's all I know about them.

I'd live in the historical core of ONT with no problem, but that's usually not what people are looking for here at C-D.

I should know more about the place, because I have an historical tie to it. My uncle was killed in the line of duty while working for OPD back in the fifties.

Interesting as my dad was an OPD police commissioner shortly after that. I'm sure they must have known each other. I didn't even realize there was a "historical" core. Maybe because I'm so old those were just considered the regular neighborhoods back then?

Take a Goog street view trip around the number and letter streets surrounding the old downtown section.,

I agree. I can't imagine commuting from Glendale to San Berdoo, even with largely against-the-flow direction. Even Palm Springs, Palm Desert or maybe even Cabazon would be easier. I have relatives in Upland. Areas to the north, by the foothills, seem pricier (newer). Pats of Ontario look okay but you need to look carefully, and visit both during the day and at night. Rancho Cucamonga and environs look nice. Not sure about the prices. I've heard that parts of Fontana are okay. However, I've never seen Upland on "Cops" (maybe their police department won't permit the filming). I'm sure you realize that there can be pockets of crime, drugs, etc. in any area, and that crime is not necessarily constantly in one area and not in another.

Around Euclid from about Holt up to the 10 is old/historic, nice enough IMO (nicer as you go north), but "not for everybody".

North of the 10 and north of the airport is lower/middle suburban, as is south of the 60.

Near Ontario Mills is the closest thing the IE has to yuppie apartments.

There's a few unsavory areas SE of Mission and Euclid IIRC.

Seems like to live in the good places you need to spend quite a bit of money to live in the rich neighborhoods. Was just looking at some of the houses of East Highland and they looked nice but then always hear small reviews about how the area is infested with crime.

People always made funny jokes about how anything North of the 210 freeway is safe but now it seems people are moving into the abandon house and turning it into crack houses. We had three abandon houses in our neighborhood turn into crack houses it only takes the cops three months to crack down on them, then they end up being boarded up and soon sold off in a matter of months.

I'm always driving around parts of San Bernardino but think to myself oh this place is nice but you'll never know how bad it gets during the night because it feels scary when you are driving down some of these neighborhoods, best bet is to just find some place outside of San Bernardino County to move to and just drive to work it's not worth it.

My older brother's neighborhood had five houses broken into in the past three weeks, and he lives in a nice quiet neighborhood near San Manual Casino in Highland.
