Really? When did it change over? 213 was LA only during my lifetime. Would have to have been prior to the early 1960s. I guess we could look up some old phone books or newspaper ads.

According to my dad my great grandmother was THE telephone operator in SBC during the early days of phone service (picture Ernestine connecting the wires) and knew everything that was going on in the area. The government wouldn't have needed to tap phone lines and could have just asked her.

1951. "Originally, the 213 area code stretched from the southern portion of the Central Valley to the Mexican border."

I'm drawing a blank on "SBC."

Hmm. Perhaps hasn't yet made the vernacular. The county where you live or should I call it "The SBC"?

I was told in no uncertain terms, by a San Bernardino native, to NEVER refer to it as "San Berdoo."
