Californians are not sensitive. Just in touch with their feelings. You can find lots of places in California where people live far apart from one another. Huge variety of people throughout the very, very big state. Not as big as Texas, of course, but much more varied geographically.

I would go with Rancho Cucamonga, personally...If you don't like it, then move to Vegas later. But you'll probably like RC because you will be close to L.A., Palm Springs, San Diego, Orange County and all of the other awesome stuff that Southern California has to offer!

Plus, if you really want to visit Vegas, you just catch the I-15 in RC and it will take you up over the Cajon Pass and across the desert to Vegas in 2 and a 1/2 hours.

Housing & gasoline are much less expensive in RC than in LV, but the brutal summers in Vegas can be a challenge, not to mention those sky high summertime utility bills.

RC to Las Vegas is 225 miles, which translates to 3-3.25 hours, depending on how fast you drive.

Ok, I should not have made the "sensitive" comment. I didn't mean it in a negative way. People do seem more temperate and orderly compared to Texas. At least Rancho Cucamonga (only place in California I've visited thus far)- compared to DFW, and Houston.
The malls in Texas seem more loud and lively to me - compared to Ontario Mills and Victoria Gardens at least. Makes Texas seem wild. I guess it seems more natural to me having lived there my whole life.
I do love how there are way more parks and actual grass.
I wouldnt mind living here, but I agree with the earlier post about how I don't really make enough money yet, and am a little young for this city.
So hopefully I can learn something about Vegas in my short visit there, cause I have to decide soon with a job waiting for me in Houston.
Thanks plenty everyone!
Thanks ya'll, lol

Housing in LV is a lot cheaper then Rancho I think, rent you can get into a nice 2bd apt in a nice LV neighborhood for around 1000 month (high end -- Summerlin or Anthem 1400) with some going as cheap as 700. If you bought a place, houses are averaging in the low 100s for nice newer (built in the last 8 years) 3 to 5 bed 2 story homes. Depending on the loan package & term you get mortgage payments range from 400 to 1000 or so a month. I have a 2008 4 bd 3 bth 2 story 2250 sq ft, no HOA home in SW Vegas. I bought in February, paid 123 for it, my mortgage payment is 890 a month. Utilities average natural gas -- about $30 dollars in the summer and $75 in the winter. Electricity runs opposite. Low in the winter - about $100 to high in the summer $278 last month (I keep my AC set at 72* all summer long). My avg water bill runs $25. Trash and sewer $13.

Gasoline, definately cheaper in Vegas then RC. Right now searching gasbuddy.com, Ranchos cheapest non-membership unleaded is $3.57 @ Ralphs @ Haven & Valencia. Las Vegas $3.31 @ 76 Charleston & i-515. Reason -- less taxes and most of our fuel is piped in from Utah now.

Weather - granted its hot here. But I lived in Ontario, Riverside & Corona for 17yrs and it can & frequently gets just as hot as LV. Just doesnt stay hot for long periods. We dont get the occassional coastal breeze. But we have a lot less smog (most of ours is dust, not pollution). Spring, autumn and winter are really enjoyable -- you just have to deal with 4 months of blast furnace, but you do get used to it.

Job wise - both areas are horrendous, but with what the OP is looking for - service industry -- can't beat Vegas. With all the hotels, casinos and restaurants here in the valley, the OP would be hard pressed to find a better opportunity. Plus our sales tax is slightly cheaper & Nevada has no state income, SDI, UI, taxes coming out of your pay. But CA has a higher minimum wage.

Yeah, it's probably not a good idea to label "everyone in California" (38 million people) based on your experiences in one city of 165,000 people.

As far as Ontario Mills goes, it's not even a real mall, in the traditional sense. It's a collection of outlet stores.

I got my figures crossed; gasoline & housing are much cheaper in Las Vegas than in RC---really whiffed on that.

It breaks 100 degrees in the RC about 5-10 days a year. I wouldn't call that frequently getting as hot as Las Vegas. In the summer months it's probably on average 15 degrees warmer in LV compared to the RC.

Rancho Cucamonga, Houston, or Las Vegas?

RC has best weather. Very suburban. Tucked under the mountains.
Houston has best economy. Deadly hot and humid.
Vegas has best nightlife for young folks. Dry heat. Ugly place. But I think if I were a young single I'd choose it.

And RC cools off at night due to the influence of the ocean, which translates to money saved on not cooling the house while everyone sleeps.
