Considering moving to either one of these places. Looking to raise a family with all the outdoor activities, and not to far from city ammenities.

I am not familiar with Pine Mountain, but I grew up in Lake Arrowhead. I love it there. It's 30 minutes down the hill to shopping. Staters is pretty much THE grocery store. Keep in mind that the lake is private so unless you buy into the Lake Association area, you will not have lake rights. I live in the valley now and miss the 4 seasons.

Are the winters in Arrowhead really bad with snow? Would I be able to get out during the winter? What do you think of Runnung Spring or Crestline? Do they get less snow? I will have to go to the valley 3 days a week.

There will be a few days a year that you cannot get out. Crestline has less snow, but it is nowhere near as nice as Arrowhead.

I lived in arrowhead and looked at houses in PMC. PMC is VERY nice but it is NOT close to any amenities. Unless something has changed, it was about an hour to the closest big supermarket. It's really out in the boondocks.
Arrowhead is much closer to shopping/jobs/etc. Snow levels appear to be similar, IIRC. I never had a problem in Arrowhead, although you have to stress each year about the fires. Our roads were usually plowed in time to get to work, but there were a few days over the 6 years I was there that I just could not get out to work due to snow.

Thanks for your info! Btween the 2 cities Santa Clarita and San Bernandino which is more appealing for a healthy driven family that likes to be outdoors most of the free time?

Crestline gets less snow, and Running Springs more. There will be a few days where snow impedes a commute. Some winters are mild and others have a lot of snow, although the general trend seems to be less snow than there used to be. Crestline is also a shorter commute down the hill, although like someone mentioned, not quite as nice an area.

My Brother lives in Running Springs and we have a house in Pine Mountain. We like PM for it's small town feel. Not as upscale as Arrowhead, but lots of fun. Village s run by a Property Association and has lots of things to do. Golf,Swimming, horses etc. Visit sometime, and check it out.

PMC near Frazier Mountain? Seems like a vacation area, but for full-time living rather isolated (more than an hour to either Santa Clarita or Bakersfield), but the closest I've been is Frazier, so PMC may be exceptionally nice even during winter snows. Would be interesting to hear from someone living there full time.

Arrowhead is much closer to shopping/jobs/etc. Snow levels appear to be similar, IIRC. I never had a problem in Arrowhead, although you have to stress each year about the fires. Our roads were usually plowed in time to get to work, but there were a few days over the 6 years I was there that I just could not get out to work due to snow.
