The OP could easily live in Wrightwood and commute down into San Bernardino. Wrightwood is part of the Snowline School District, which is an award-winning district and very high ranking. Wrightwood gets plenty of snow and is home to a ski resort also. The commute into San Bernardino would be 30 minutes - tops!

Plain and simple, just don't live in San Berdoo. It's easily one of the worst cities in Southern California, debatably the worst. If you must work there, live in Upland, Rancho Cucamonga, Redlands, or Riverside. I grew up in Upland which is a very nice and clean city. Rancho Cucamonga is also nice, newer than Upland because Upland has a lot of that old-century affluence, but Rancho is also close to SB and has a wealth of shopping options. Redlands is very charming and quaint. Riverside is a large city with many nice, wealthy neighborhoods but also a couple not-so-nice neighborhoods, but is overall a decent city. Downtown Riverside is also pretty charming and is very up-and-coming with plans to make Downtown nicer.

Let's not get carried away. San Bernardino County includes plenty of nice cities. San Bernardino (the city) is another story.

Ditto with another poster DO NOT MOVE TO CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO! Rancho Cucamonga is nice but housing is on the more expensive side but is a much nicer area. Be prepared for culture shock from your area to here. Be ready for smoggy air, traffic, and taxes. Plus more heat than you are used to in your area. Best of luck with your move!

True, the city of San Bernardino is now bankrupt and I know several people that have moved out as it is not safe, high crime, lots of homeless and run down areas. Mt communities ok but can be treacherous coming down the hill on commute in winter the higher you get.

Not everyone will like what I'm about to say, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I sugarcoat things for you. There is no safe place in San Bernadino / San Bernadino county.

Yes, while there is crime everywhere, I have never seen crime at this rate anywhere else, and I have lived in a lot of different places. When my friend's daughter was learning how to talk, she made the siren sound because that was the sound that she heard every night.

Another friend's husband was beaten and mugged last week (in his own car!) and a hospital employee told him that they got at least 3 mugging victims a night, and those were just the ones that went to that hospital because they needed medical treatments! The police never showed up to take the report because mugging is the norm here.

And when yet another friend called 911 recently, he was put on hold, with elevator music and all. "We are sorry that we are busy. We understand that you have an emergency. Please stay on the line and an operator will assist you momentarily."

Do you have to move out here? I have been to New England (NH, Mass., and Maine) and I loved it. My husband is originally from New Hampshire, and he misses it everyday.

New England is so green and beautiful, with natural beauty and resources, along with clean, well-maintained roads and an amazing public school system.

San Bernadino (and the rest of the Inland Empire) is...the opposite of all of the above.

I do not recommend either San Bernadino city or county; it is NOT a place to raise a family. I am very serious about this, and I am thankful every day that my husband and I do not have a child yet. We are putting off bringing a child into this world until we are out of this hell hole.

The unemployment rate is very high, and there is a very high tolerance for intolerance and bigotry.

Don't do it.
