We are thinking of moving from Garden Grove to Temecula to take advantage of the housing price drop and the great schools BUT I would be commuting to Garden Grove every work day. Is it really that bad? Does anyone go to Oceanside and then up the 5 to avoid the 91? Am I crazy for even considering this? We have a 4 year old and 2 year old and we're trying to do what is best for them. Hopefully get a good house at a great price close to parks and a great school and live in a family oriented, safe town. I can't see myself paying 500 K for a 1200 sq ft house built in 1950s on a 6000 sq ft lot in Garden Grove when I can get twice the house in Temecula. Am I missing something? I will also probably only have to do the commute for 2 years max since I'm a science teacher and can hopefully get a job in TVUSD if the commute reduces me to the fetal position and prozac. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You couldn't pay me enough to do that commute. There's no easy way to get from Temecula to Garden Grove. For example, the last time I went out that way was around 7pm on a Saturday. It took only 15-20 minutes to make it from Fountain Valley to the 55/91 interchange. At that point, traffic came to a screeching halt. It then took an hour to make to to the 15 in Corona. No accidents, no weather, no holiday. Just too many cars. That's how the 91 is. Now picture a week day.

I don't think going south would help either. That's a big detour and traffic through South OC is no picnic either.

I'd work on getting a job out there first, then moving.

I would stay in GG and apply for a job in TVUSWD first. You can always make the commute the opposite direction until you can relocate. You would be going against traffic, and it still won't be good.
It's almost Christmas break. Go rent a motel in Temecula and make the commute for a few days and see what you think..!
