Hi All, My family is possibly moving to the Joshua Tree area. How are the elementary schools? We like encouraging creativity but in a structured environment. We are not very fond of the California public school system so we tend to lean towards alternative programs. Currently, our son attends a charter school for the arts in Santa Rosa, Ca. Anyone have an opinion on the schools in this area?

Thanks!

I hope you visit JT before you move there. I've lived in Santa Rosa & Yucca Valley (it's next to JT).

There isn't anything in JT, you'll want to live in Yucca Valley or 29 Palms. There's a lot of crime from all of the meth in the area. Climate is better in Yucca as it sits higher in elevation than JT & 29.

Wind is insane...it's very hot in the summer but it cools at night. No humidity so swamp coolers are common. Snow is not uncommon in the winter.

Oh, schools, we sent ours to 29 even though we lived in Yucca. We were allowed to because I was stationed in 29.

I don't remember the website anymore but there was one that rated the local schools. The base & 29 received the best scores.
