Hi,
I understand that city of SB has filed bankruptcy last year, which means that many public services have been shut down, including the police presence too may have been reduced. This appeals to more crimes in the city. I am considering relocating to Riverside or SB, but to a safer and nicer area, with my young family. I am curious to know how this have affected lifestyles in SB, as far as taxes, cost of housing, etc. Would you recommend a relocation to SB or Riverside, as I guess they are pretty close distance-wise? Which city has more to offer for a especially for a foreigner? Thank you

I lived in Riverside and San Bernardino for 4 years, graduated from Cal State San Bernardino (2012), and Riverside has ALOT more to do within the city. With SB, your close to Big Bear for snowboarding in winter. But both places are not very vibrant, hustle-bustle, trendy, if that's what your looking for. If you think it's gonna be a "mini LA", you are dreaming.

The only bar in SB I went to that my roommates deemed acceptable, was the Rustic Inn. The do have a very small strip in Redlands, but its about 20 min out.

But above all that I liked San Bernardino over Riverside, I dunno why, but I do

Agreed with above... Alta Loma if you can afford it... Claremont if you can afford it... then Upland or south east in Redlands... Just say no to SB.

That helps. I have previously visited Anaheim, but never been to Claremont, SB or Redlands. It seems that Claremont is a more posh area, with more expensive houses. So Claremont, Redlands are not part of the same county as SB. Thanks

Redlands definitely is in SB county and Claremont is right on the border. My old apartment in claremont was less than a half mile from the county line.

Even though the counties are close by, does that make a difference living in one county or the neighboring one. Is it relative more expensive to live in the LA county?

Off the top of my head ... sales tax is higher in Los Angeles County, so shop on the other side of the county line.
Makes a difference if you have a large purchase, like a car.

Differences in county-level services (sheriff, county fire dept, social, civil, court, park, library, etc.)--could be for the better, could be for the worse.
