21 year old white male considering moving from East Coast to Victorville, CA. Please tell me - what are the job opportunities for a young male (without a college degree)? What is there to do around Victorville? What is it like? This is actually info I'm seeking for a friend who I feel is considering the move mainly because he has a relative there he can live with for free. Help!

Low wage/blue collar, usually with commute.

Ride quads/dirtbikes, shop. World class city 1.5 hours down the hill.

It's desert. With Joshua Trees. And sagebrush. And creosote. Tons of mountains around too.

Free living is hard to beat. I'd do it just for the change.

Not a lot of jobs up there in the Victorville area.

The chances are you might find a decent job down in LA County or the Inland Empire, and you would want to move out of your relative's place since that commute up and down the hill is no fun at all.

Victorville is only good just to see civilization while driving through the vast Mojave desert on either I-15 or highway 395

Victorville is equal to, or in many cases a better option than much of Pomona.

You only gain a higher COL and better access to job centers in Pomona.

I would say Victorville is slightly safer than Pomona. Pomona has gang violence problems.

But Pomona has restaurants, supermarkets, office parks, industrial complexes, two Metrolink stations (LA-SB line and LA-Riv line), a top-tier CSU, diverse housing stock, entertainment venues, a historic downtown, etc.

Victorville would kill to have the things Pomona has.

Pomona has pretty reasonable access to jobs as well as shopping and cultural amenities in SB, Riv, OC, and LA--something Victorville will never have.

Victorville is not a bad place to live IF you have a [good] job. Not too many employment opportunities in the High Desert right now.

-Cheers.
