Hi guys!!
Thanks a lot for all your kind responses, that really helped me!
But in certain ways, I still don't have ideas about some stuff like: the cost of life? food in the supermarket for example, is it expensive to eat properly?
And the most important for me: meeting people, how do we actually met people when you don't know a soul? Is there some forum or website where people suggest partys, events, to go out have a drink, make friends, kind of stuff like that?
And if I do make friends, is it expensive to follow them in a Financial way?restaurants, bars, country club, etc...?

So finally, is it easy to meet people? I really want to accept the job offer, but I am scared to be lonely...

Take the job.

PS is a friendly place, you'll have no trouble making friends.

First you've got a job and you're boud to make connection at your work place. Being new and French you won't want for invitations. Second, you'll probably be living in an apt. complex and will have neighbors.

Also Happy Hour and Piano Bar are institutions in the Coachella Valley. Happy Hour occurs in bars after work for a couple of hours, featuring reduced price drinks and small plates. They offera relaxed, highly social atmosphere where no one is out to impress and conversations begin easily.

(One thing to keep in mind is that the area is not just a resort area, but also a retirement place, so some venues tend to be elderly.)

And don't worry about keeping pace with high spenders. Most venues aren't that expensive and the majority of people don't fly high when dining or drinking out.

Speaking of that, the cuisine is not on a level with France. I've found the local restaurants middle of the road, and not as cutting edge as you would expect in a community with so many gays. Be prepared: you'll miss your breads, your pastries, your sauces, and your frites. But this is California, so it is wine drinking country.

Good luck. If you make the move, it will be an exciting adventure. And a friendly one..

There is no way we could tell you what is expensive to you.
What are you paying (in American dollars) for a gallon of milk in France?
What are you paying (in American dollars) for a pound of ground beef in France?
What are you paying (in American dollars) for a head of lettuce in France?
What are you paying (in American dollars) for a dozen eggs in France?
Tell us that, and we can give you comparisons for the California desert area.
I will say that I have a regular visitor from Brussels - who thinks it is very very cheap here.

How would you find friends if you moved all alone to Finland or Kenya? You make friends at work and your circle of acquaintances grows from there.
Expensive to follow them in a Financial way? Choose your friends wisely

Most any grass grows here but most lawns are planted with St. Augustine and over seeded with rye grass in October which lasts until march or so.

I just moved here the beginning of July. I am typical, early retiree (57) looking for cheaper cost of housing in California. It is REALLY hot here so be aware that your AC bills could be very high if you're cooling a large space.

Studio Apt two blocks from downtown: $650/month - all electric - first bill $67 month (keep AC set to 82 - 84 F)
Food: $200/month - I eat all meals in and eat almost no meat so that's mostly fruits, nuts, veggies, eggs, milk, bread, cereal, pasta and rice box side dishes.
Gym: $10 - $30/month I paid up-front at World Gym and that worked out to the 27/month (includes all the group exercise classes) - Gold's is as little as around $10/month but it was too crowded and too young for me - it would probably work well for you if you were interested in meeting young men there
Health Insurance (you may get this from your job): $415/month - $5000 deductible

There's a really nice public pool facility that I haven't visited, but have seen it online (City of Palm Springs : Swim Center)

You will need a car. It's possible to get along without it, but it could be painful waiting for the bus in the EXTREME summer heat with your groceries. You should price that in.

I can't speak to the nightlife as I'm long past the age of going out to bars and pool parties. I do hear music near my apartment that I was told originates from one of the hotel pool parties on the weekends.

You can take a train to LA from Palm Springs or drive but avoid week day rush hour.

I never said I was a native, but in fact, I lived there for three years - I had to move away for a job two years ago but I'll be back. Yes, while there are a FEW concerts and events at the boring little McCallum (mostly geared towards the seniors) and the casinos, it is in no way the same as a big city. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed living in Palm Springs and look to come back (but nowhere east of Palm Springs) but it isn't the big city.

Your response was so over the top that I think placing you on "ignore" is in order for a while.
My feelings are hurt! I feel like a child whose mama put her in "time out". Love it!!!!!

That "look to come back" part .... is that a threat???

BTW, you're still WRONG. I never said the desert was like a big city.

Please don't respond ... I rather like being ignored by you!

I believe this is the one of the best places to live. Very clean and always sunny. Most people think it is too hot at summer time but I think it is depend on how you look at this. If you like swimming in the pool and nice warm nights you might enjoy hot summer San Diego and Los Angeles about couple hours away but here in the Desert is some nightlife too, Moderator cut: see note A lot of city and sport events, also

So how did the story end? A lot of us took the time to guide you, and are curious if you came to the Desert and if so, how is it going?
