We are retiring and thinking of moving to suncity Del Webb in Indio. Big decision! I wanted to know how bad the sand storms and the wind really are? Also how is living in Indio?

It was 107 degrees there today, BTW. It is now 8pm, and it is still 95 degrees. There are frequent windy conditions with blowing sand in all of the Coachella Valley area out to Indio, and sometimes the wind is strong enough to be called a sandstorm. People carry windshield insurance for their cars, because the sand pits them. I was visiting out there and one bad sandstorm pitted mine. But, a warm breeze is part of the desert charm.

Indio seems to be expanding. It used to be sketchy, but I was out there in early summer and there are many new signs for housing developments. Some people think it is growing too fast. Here are the 2010 US Census facts:

Indio would not be my first choice for retirement. There's not first rate medical care and there are crime issues. The windy parts of the Coachella are generally north of 111. I've had a home in the valley contiuously for 43 years and never had a pitted winshield but I have never had a home north of 111 either.
