Hi all, I am heading into the area and flying into ONT. I don't need a car while in town so I would prefer to see what options I have maybe metro link to get from the airport to Irvine area. No rush but looking to save a buck. Metrolink website is really poor and I don't see any additional info posted elsewhere. Can anyone provide advise on this?

Really? No one has attempted to get from ONT to Orange County via metrolink? I would think this is a common desire... any help or advice would be appreciated.

Twnxn, that has to be either the worst planning tool ever or least frequent route. It gives very few options and only one route/method. Is this really the case?

You only have 3 choices.
1) Get a ride from ONT to the Metrolink station - Go East to San Bernardino (Brown line) or to Riverside (Purple line) and then south to Irvine

2) Get a ride from ONT to the Metrolink station - Go West to Union Station in LA and then south to Irvine.

3) - Rent a car

Have you tried Google? Type "ontario airport to irvine public transit".

Google Maps is showing a best case scenario of 4 hours.

Nothing is worth putting yourself through that.

Funny thing is that's also how long it takes on a bicycle

Don't shoot the messenger. Unfortunately, there really isn't any direct lines from Ontario to Orange County (if you are specifically trying to take the train from Ontario to Irvine). The other way, which is even longer would be to take the line from Ontario all the way to Union Station in Los Angeles, then take another line down to Irvine (either Metrolink towards Oceanside or the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner towards San Diego).
