Help. My husband and I are moving to san bernardino shortly because he just got a job in Fontana. I've been searching online for suggestions on where to live but most of the posts I'm seeing were from years back...Not sure if there are any improvements since then but I'm reading that san bernardino is not really the best place to live in.... any suggestions on which area would be a good place for us to live in with our young daughters (3 and 8)? I would like to be as far as possible to the gangs/drugs & high crime area with the best possible schools and community feel - we are very active. Any suggestions please. Thanks in advance xx

So much depends on your budget for housing. Will you be renting and then wanting to purchase a home? And yes, San Bernardino is not an area I would suggest. I lived in East Highlands for 10 years and always stayed away from San Berdoo. Give a little more info on your situation and I am sure the forum can help you.

Many would probably say Rancho Cucamonga... maybe Upland or even Fontana itself.

RC is the priciest city near Fontana and for good reasons.

I posted this on another thread, but it may help you.

My nephew, wife, 2 kids, and assorted pets were happy in this neighborhood (Fontana mailing address, very close to Cucamonga) until he transferred to Arizona.

Definitely stay out of San Bernardino, the warnings are not exaggerated. Try RC, North Fontana, Loma Linda. The commute & higher rent are worth it.

thanks so much for the responses, I shall continue my search, Rancho looks good so far....yes would be to rent with a view to buy once we have assessed the area that best suites us. any opinions on the schools there, this is very important to us, would be happy to pay higher rental or a longer commute for a better school for the girls.

Greatschools.org has a ton of information on schools and ratings, etc. The Etiwanda and Alta Loma parts of Rancho Cucamonga has several highly-rated schools.
