KNEE INJURY:
Can an urgent care doctor or primary care physician put me out of work and file my disability paperwork? Or, do I have to see a orthopedist?
I'm not sure how all this works as I have never filed for disability before. In 2012 I had x-rays and an MRI on my knee and it was determined that I had ligament tears and severe arthritis. (This was not a work related injury) I didn't have any medical procedures done at the time as I couldn't afford to take time off work..etc. Well the other day I stepped off my boat trailer and really aggravated the injury, my knee has been in a lot of pain and I haven't been able to go to work. I can't get an appointment to see an orthopedist until late next week, I really need to start a flow of income and I guess disability is my only option since I can't work.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You can file your own claim, but a doctor must submit their paperwork within 30 days:

State Disability Insurance (SDI) Online

It looks like I can initiate the claim and file online but I would not start receiving payments until after a doctor files their paperwork to substantiate the claim...right?
