Look at what the crime really was and where. Where there is retail you will see theft and auto theft.

I lived in Alta Loma for 24 years near Chaffey College . Very safe. My job moved and I can't wait to come back somehow.

i lived in corona for 8 years, ive been here in rancho for over 10 years now. i can tell you rancho is way safer than corona. a lot of crime is reported at Victoria Gardens, which is petty shop lifting... both high schools(rancho and osos) are 9 out of 10. stay above baseline and youll love it...

Crime is relative, but you won't find any more crime in Rancho than you do in Corona. This is one of the safest areas in the entire Inland Empire. Of course, there is going to be some level of crime. I would say drugs and theft are the biggest issues in the city. Growing up, I went to Rancho Cucamonga High School. It was okay, I can tell you that drug use and theft (cell phones, wallets, etc.) were a constant occurrence. Los Osos HS is considered a "better" school with students from more affluent areas (Day Creek, Haven Estates) but they were definitely not immune to these types of crimes. Etiwanda and Alta Loma HS also have these problems. Honestly, your kids will be fine wherever they go... It's Rancho Cucamonga.

Most of the crime in that area seems to be happening in Upland as financial problems have caused cuts in their police departments. Both RC and Ontario have great police departments and crime is lower in those cities.

Parts of Upland can be pretty dodgy. My first apartment was in Upland on the Ontario/Rancho/Upland border. My place was broken into and I've driven past two SWAT operations in this neighborhood. The RC police department has the advantage of being contracted through the SB County Sheriff. Upland and Ontario PD have seen cuts in their budgets, but there are good neighborhoods in both of these cities. In Upland, the Colonies development is very safe; the million dollar neighborhoods on the top of Euclid and Mountain are also safe. In Ontario, the Creekside neighborhood is fairly safe. Stay away from Mission and Holt...

The Ontario PD has been growing due to the great financial situation of the city of Ontario. A major difference from the financial straits Upland is in. However, like the previous posters stated most areas in both cities are nice compared to other areas. North Ontario is generally better than the south side, especially the areas on Euclid north of the downtown area. Beautiful historical areas.

Ok so I’ve lived in both cities and yes for someone in corona I can understand why they would think rancho has a higher crime rate. Corona is a nice town but growing fast and rancho gave me more of a city feel. Corona looks more like an oc city and rancho would be more like trying to look like a bigger version of upland. They’re completely different so I would say stay north of baseline and it’s all good up there because if you’re from corona than you may not like the rest of rancho because it’s more ie than corona is
