thinking about moving to temecula but work in san diego (Oceanside: house, to buy)

This is the situation. My husband and I would like to buy a home. We are starting to realize that might not be a reality in San Diego. So we are considering relocating to Temecula/Murrieta. I am a stay at home mom, however my husband does work in San Diego (mission valley specifically) and will be commuting mon-fri. His current work hours are 6-2:30. My question is the commute worth it? I have heard mixed thoughts on this. Some say the traffic is too unbearable and end up getting burnt out after the first year. Others say the commute isn’t that bad and totally worth it. Help! Does anyone currently commute to San Diego for work on a daily basis? Are the home values in Temecula worth the commute? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I worked in Fallbrook (living in North county) for 6 months and I would say NO WAY, although those aren't standard hours but still -- the distance alone apart from the monstrous traffic is still quite significant. That was the worst commute of my life, hands down. I feel you on the home prices, though, and wish you good luck. SD is just so expensive.

Carlsbad, or Oceanside? Carlsbad has great schools and is very safe like Temecula / Murrieta

With the hours your husband works it wont be as bad of a commute as someone who works 8-5. I dont commute but live in southern Temecula and love it here. My wife commutes on off hours down to Mira Mesa Blvd and it takes her about 45 to 50 minutes. We can get to the airport during non rush hour in 1 hour. I have not priced San Diego in a while but you can get a lot more for your money up here. Your question of is the home value worth the commute is something you will have to answer on your own. There is no right or wrong or yes or no to that question. It all depends on what you want, what you can afford and what is important to you. Is driving 2 hours a day worth it for your husband so you can buy a home? you need to figure he will at least be gone from 5am to 330 or 4. I just google mapped from Great Oak high school to Mission Valley and it says 55 mins without traffic and 1 hour 1 mins with current traffic at 5:50am.

If you do move and are commuting to SD, I would recommend the southern part of Temecula. The further north on the 15 in Temecula the worse the traffic gets before the 215 split. 2x a week i pick my daughter up in Northern Temecula and the 15 is slow down at 2:45.

If I had an hour long commute would I do it? Yes. It would be worth it to me.

We have friends who have been doing the commute for over 10 years. They bought in S. Temecula near the casino. He works in Kearny Mesa & she in La Mesa & they ride together. They have a lot of family help with their young son, I don't know if they could manage this lifestyle otherwise. I don't know how they do that brutal commute, but they have. They love their house & wanted their son to be in a safe place & attend good schools.

You'd definitely be with lots of other people who made the same decision. I made the leap and love Temecula BUT I don't have to commute luckily
