It's my first time on this forum. I am moving in June to California from NYC. My job is located in Moreno Valley, and just wanted to know what are some good neighborhoods in/surrounding it with not a lot of commuting.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would look into menifee. It's a little farther south of Moreno Valley but it's a nice area and reasonably priced.

As always, in Riverside County and just about all of Southern California, I like to advise people of Craigs List Rental Scams. And, my second advice is YELP ratings on apartments are manipulated so that they look better than they really are. Menifee, Murrieta, and Temecula are low crime suburbs connected together like one big city, with a total population of 500,000 Apartments, are overpriced, due to landlords who use Rent Maximizing Software to increase their profits, such as RAinmaker RLO, Yardi, or Yieldstar. In NYC, I don't know if they use these programs. But I do know that upstate NY does not, so things are cheaper.

Scams such as,

https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/apa/5581650802.html

https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/apa/5567770653.html

Those are in Western Riverside County.
Eastern Riverside County, is much worse, such as,

There are also scammers in the Phoenix area that place rental ads on houses on Zillow that are for sale, and they claim they are trying to get the for sale ad removed. Then they want a big deposit and three months rent in advance. This scam may have spread out from that area.

Congratulations on your new job. Moreno Valley may be a good city to start off living since you will be working in the area. There are some really nice areas, good areas, okay areas and not so pretty good areas (like most cities). Surrounding cities near Moreno Valley would include Riverside near the university, Corona, Corona Lakes near the mall, Rancho Cucamonga (very nice all over), Ontario, Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Lake Elsinore (Canyon Lake area preferably) - I would not recommend Hemet, Perris, San Bernardino or San Jacinto. Living in the Inland Empire is a little less expensive than Metropolitan Los Angeles or Orange County. Just a tip - the apartments that seem really cheap compared to others please be careful that it may be in a bad area or a scam. Look for an apartment using a realtor, bonafide apartment websites like: rent.com; apartmentguide.com; apartmentfinder.com; trulia.com; or a property management company. Here are some apartment communities you might want to check out - Lewis Communities, AMLI, SRG Living, Equity. Stay away from Craigslist because 90% of the ads are scams. Never send money through a wire - some ads are saying send $200 for them to hold as a deposit to find you a place; those are scams. Feel free to message me, I live near the area. Good luck on your move!

P.S. there are some nice apartment communities in Riverside just off the 60fwy not far from the University - this is also close to Moreno Valley off the 215fwy.

Depends if you are buying a home or renting and whether schools are a big factor for any kids. If you are a single person just renting, tons of options but truly watch for scams. If you are a family moving that has two kids in school, then Menifee and Murrieta are your best options.

Moreno Valley, Riverside, and Corona all have decent neighborhoods and commuting would be relatively easy with the I 15, I 215, and the 60 freeway. Of course, watch out for some areas which will be visibly dangerous. Just stay away from San Bernardino... There is no good in SB.
