Mom of 10 yr old son. Wondering if moving to Temecula is a good idea. Concerned since there is a lot of diversity. My son is very loving and doesn't see color. Concerned about him making friends or being treated differently because of our race. Any insight would be appreciated.

Lived in the area for many years and I see no problem I had several black friends in that area.

Yeah, won't be a problem. It isn't 1962, and Temecula isn't Mobile, Alabama.

1.) This post should have been in the I.E. (Riverside-San Bernardino) forums. Temecula is an hour's drive from the Orange County border at Weir Canyon.

^That's being a little disingenuous.

If you're a " Nuclear family" as in Dad-Mom & Siblings, you're conservative politically, have a military background and quickly find a local church to attend...you'll be fine.

If you're a single mom (or single dad) and raising kids, well...let's just say you'll raise a few eyebrows.

Being on the fringes of suburbia between San Diego and L.A./OC, the Temecula-Murrieta area is very white, very conservative, very Republican and very religious. I'm not saying this is "bad", but it is what it is and there's no sense in pretending otherwise.

If I were black, a liberal, LGBT, unmarried, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikh or atheist (or any combo thereof) I would look elsewhere personally.

Perris is a town a little ways north of Temecula-Murrieta and it has a decent-sized black population by So Cal standards (16% or so) and OP might be more comfortable there.

I lived in Temecula for over 4 years. I loved it. Park your car near Temecula High School about the time the kids get out and take a look at the kids. It's far more diverse than people would have you believe. While the AA community is small, there are a large number of kids from a variety of races.

As others have pointed out, this should be in the IE forum.

No offense OP, but the only people I know that talk about race, and how it effects them are African American people.

Literally nobody else I know give a **** what color you are.

Have you actually been to SoCal?

If you're getting "eyebrows" raised at you in SoCal, it's probably something YOU are doing to raise attention to yourself. No one gives a **** if you're black. Like I said, this isn't 1962, and the KLAN isn't even a blip on any political radar. Stop making up stories about "big bad white republican families who stare at black people", and inventing bogeymen.

Agree with these concerns. However, where is the OP moving FROM? And why do they consider Temecula? Is it the schools,?

Other suburbs with good schools that are more " tolerant" of the factors mentioned above include Santa Clarita north of LA. On the other hand, Temecula elected a black mayor several times, Chuck Washington, who even won for county supervisor, running against the former Murrieta white mayor Randon Lane.

Well, maybe for a good reason - African Americans historically have to be concerned about race and how it affects them personally, much more than other ethnic groups.

This is spot on. I have lived here since 2009 and it is not as white as others seem to suggest. It is also not as religious as some might suggest as well and if it is, they dont bother me. Of my surrounding neighbors, who are all good people, none of them are overly religious or even go to church. We live in Redhawk.
