I don't know about the other lakes, CrazyMan probably knows more. Lake Tami was my favorite, my HS boyfriend & I spent a lot of time there...happy memories that I've been thinking of a lot lately, because he died recently.

I think there are still some private lakes there, on resident's property.

As for doing this in Baker...lakes need water, remember?
Those are the lakes I was referring to.

Why, yes! Obviously, of course lakes need water, especially in Baker!

Here is what Baker does NOT need: A gift shop to sell The World's Biggest thermometer (woohoo) and Bun Boy stuff.

I remember all the lakes Marsha mentioned and I will add Twin Lakes in Newberry which was open to the public. They had swimming, fishing, paddle boats, picnic areas etc. Then they added an RV park. From my understanding it is also out of business. There are private lake communities still out there like Lake Jodi, Calico Lakes Etc. The water table has dropped drastically in Newberry and the Laws are now metering wells. So...I would say for Baker ever having a man made lake is pretty much so unreasonable and out of the question. Like I said, why would anyone want to hang out in Baker when you have Vegas and other areas of interest just up the hwys? I always considered Lake Delores and Tami to be located in Harvard instead of Newberry Springs.

Starbucks and healthy food options for travelers. that is a perfect stopping pleace. i always pass Baker just when I want coffee or lunch on a long drive. A nice place to actually stop for a bit not to run through the drive through. A lot of people have dogs when they stop there too.

What's so special about Harvard, if I may ask?

Overrated. My cousin who actually graduated from Yale attended Harvard for a semester for some thesis work I think and that was her opinion of the place.

I think Baker could support a Holiday Inn Express or a Comfort Suites as a stop for travelers who are not on a Vegas to SoCal run. It is 65 miles to Barstow and 50 miles to Primm.

Casinos on tribal land, depend on that particular tribe. Some tribes are very traditional & don't want gambling on their land.
