Okay so my husband, I and our two preschool age kids are currently living in Pasadena. We like it a lot here- however- we are starting to get interested in moving a bit east and finding a community that has good public schools and a cheaper cost of living. My husband works from home. He sometimes has to go into an LA office once a week. I am looking at Rancho, Upland and Claremont. I’m interested in schools- which areas have the best public schools and are safe. I also love character. Now I went to college in Claremont so I have a little bit of familiarity with the quaintness there but know nothing about how it’s like living there with a family. Right now we are living in a condo but the idea of getting into a single family dwelling is also a motivation. When I look at real estate options in those areas I see lots of possibilities. So what do people recommend ?

If you earned your degree(s) at the Claremont Colleges, you're familiar enough with the area to know that's one of the best cities in/near the IE to live in, if you can afford it.

Sounds like either Claremont or RC would work for you.

We live in Upland and love it.. Close to everything in the area.

We really love Claremont, but, it's out of our price range.

I live in north Ontario next to Upland and Montclair. Love the area and all the conveniences. Close to the airport and not too far from LA.

They are all good communities with decent schools. I grew up in Upland. I finished high school in Claremont. My parents now live in Rancho Cucamonga- so I visit there quite often. They all have decent single family homes that are a little bit, not necessarily much cheaper than in the Pasadena area. The order from the highest median home price to the lowest are Claremont, Upland and then Rancho Cucamonga for when I last checked.

Newer apartments near $1800 for a 1 bedroom or even higher. Older nice apartments near $1500.

Even higher now than I imagined. And that's 45 minutes from DTLA on a good traffic day.
