But the Inland Empire is part of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, not Los Angeles County. No one who lives in the IE calls it "L.A."

I live in the IE and when I’m traveling I say I live in the LA area. I live 4 blocks from LA county line and have much more connection to LA than either Riverside or San Bernardino.

I tell people I am from Southern California and that I am far from the beach.

The IE is a well established area because it is along the railroad. Citrus farming and manufacturing were big deals. The natural path for SoCal to grow was in the direction towards the existing part of the US. Cities like Chino and Ontario were incorporated in the 1880s and many IE cities started in the 19th century.

In the IE there is sunlight while coastal OC is still fogged in. Another plus is that LA isn't in the IE. So it isn't near the beach, but almost nothing is near the beach. You can't say how close to the beach you live when you are in Anaheim or Glendale or 95% of Los Angeles. My rule is that either you can see the beach out your window, or you can walk to it, or it is easy to get there without a car. If none of those are true, then you can't say you live near the beach, so don't act like it.

A huge percentage of people in the IE work in either LA or OC so it will always be directly connected to and part of the LA area. Look at any Freeway or train going into LA in the morning and they are packed. The same as any major city in the world.

L.A's Sphere of Influence aka The Greater L.A Region includes those counties...In other parts of the Country if you tell them your from The Inland Empire,or from Riverside or San Bernardino you will get a ???? look, but if you just tell them L.A or Southern California it would be much more recognizable to them...Similar in Las Vegas, you have the City of Henderson connected with Las Vegas. Most people in Henderson would just say Las Vegas or Nevada to identify where they're from or else you'll get the ???? look from those not familiar with Henderson.

We're not talking about other parts of the country. This is the San Bernardino and Riverside County sub-forum, so obviously, if you're from those areas, you are not from Los Angeles. And anyone living in either one would know to what county one is referring.

And re-read the OP; h/she is not posting about "The Greater L.A. region."
