Hello,

Currently we live in Irvine and have been looking into Corona to buy. The only thing stopping us is my commute to Sante Fe Springs for work. What does this commute look like? I would be about 45 miles from work. My wife works from home and I work Sunday through Thursday. Sunday’s I’m not too concerned about but Monday - Thursday I work 1030-715pm.

Anyone who does this commute have any insight? Thanks!

Sunday can be bad on 91WB during beach season with the inlander exodus to the sunny sands and cool ocean breezes. Likewise EB on Sunday late PM and evenings as everyone heads home. During the regular workweek, EB is still a slog well past 7. When I'm in So. OC, I time my trips to GTFO of OC via EB 91 by 2:30 pm, 3 at the latest. If that's not possible, I hang around until 10.

If you live East of McKinney on the 91 or south of magnolia on the 15, entering the express lane definitely helps on the way to work. However, coming back on the 91, the express lane entrance takes forever to get into. I’m not sure how your commute is from Irvine to Santa Fe, so I can’t say if it’s going to be similar or worse.

Depends on your work hours, but I wouldn’t recommend it. I commuted from Riverside to Norwalk for 2.5 years, 50 miles, and it takes about 75min going there. Driving home during day hours took 90min to 2.5 hours max (especially on a Friday). If driving home at night, took around 60minutes.

I finally was able to transfer 20miles east of my house. Nopeee wouldn’t do the long commute again. Physically it was very draining and it felt like I had no time to do very basic things. I would have to wait till my days off and even then I was too drained to want to do anything.
