Just as I return to California from the East Coast, the severe drought and soaring temperatures have made me think ahead to the next several years.

I can't see a sudden improvement in the drought and wonder what are the consequences going to be:

- higher water rates (already okayed by the water agency)
- farming disrupted?
- higher food costs?
- water restrictions for homes?
- will I ever get to build the pool I had been hoped for one day (this is the least of my worries)

No, there won't be a sudden improvement, as it's going to be hot and mostly rainless for the next 5 months or so. But that's NORMAL. Summer is always hot and rainless.

Wait and see what happens next winter before panicking.
