Hello,

I was thinking of buying a condo in Coachella, yet most condos do not have a garage. So more than likely I will only have an exposed parking space or a carport/covered parking spot.

My main concern is, how well does your vehicle tires and vehicle battery hold-up in the hot desert of Coachella Valley, when you have to park outside?

Living in a hot desert, I had heard that a vehicle battery might only last 2 to 3 years, before needing a new one (when parking outdoors).

Living in the hot desert, I had heard that vehicle tires Dry Rot and often need to be replaced every 3 years, even if the tires have less than 40,000 miles on them (when parking outdoors).

If you have lived in Coachella Valley for over 4 years AND you had to park your vehicle outside all of that time, what has been your experiences with your vehicle battery AND vehicle tires?

Also, what are any other vehicle problems that you have experienced due to having to park outside in the desert?

Pep Boys has some kind of Guarantee if the battery goes bad in that period you get a new one free. Typically, a car battery will last between three and five years anyways.

googoogirl, thank you for your reply. I apologize for not replying back to your answer from April. YIKES! I never got a notification that I had a reply. I happen to be online this afternoon looking at this forum to see what is new. Yet best of all, I am now living in Coachella Valley (year around) and your information is just as good and valuable as it was when you shared it with me in April.

I just hit the 2 year mark on the brand new battery I purchased in 2020, but to be on the safe side, I plan to purchase a new battery next year as I do not see any strain on the battery whenever I start my car. Thus far, the tires that I purchased in 2020 are holding up fine. I am lucky, I have a place to park my car inside a locked garage.

Thank you again for your help, and please accept my sincerest apologies for not replying back to you sooner.

I hope wherever you are, that you are having a nice summer.

no sweat. I'm on here just a few times a year. I have a SMALL car and I replace the small battery once a year so the A/C never goes out and when I replace it the battery fluid has already been coming out the top. I have a LARGE suv with a large battery - that never needs replacing. Best Wishes to you too.

When I lived in the Joshua Tree area, I replaced my battery yearly and kept my car windows slightly cracked when it was really hot out. I parked outside year-round.
