My husband and I are planning to move back to California in the next year or so for family reasons. We are looking at the Inland Empire as it looks more affordable. We will be transferring with a company so jobs are not a problem.

We are looking closely at Temecula, Murrieta area. How many of the houses in these areas have home owners associations? We have 2 Rottweilers and plan to always have Rottweilers and I have heard some people with certain breeds have problems with HOA. We will of course have to find out about the specific HOA when we find a house but in general are these areas mostly HOA? If you have a HOA do you know if yours allows big dogs of any breed?

Most of the developments built from the late 80s or early 90s on have HOAs, but not every one does

I live in Murrieta in the Countryside/Creekside development. While a HOA was planned, none exists as all the external land and streets were given to the city, so no HOA exists. The city maintains the common areas and the new park.

Thank you both. We will be sure when looking to let our realtor know our situation and that we need to know before hand which areas have HOA and what rules they may have.

I live in an HOA development, but no specific dog rules.
I do want to offer some advice on neighborhood shopping; make absolutely sure of the tax rates as one development may have very high rates (including 20 yr bonds) while one directly across the street may be low. The older the development the lower the tax rate also.
