We live in Vancouver WA. We are tired of the rain and cold weather. We are planning to move to Hemet or San Jacinto. I am a school teacher and my wife works in retail. Any information on the area would be greatly appreciated.

When moving to America, why in the world would one focus on Hemet? Of all the places I've lived near in England, California and Texas, Hemet would be one of my very last choices.

I would avoid both Hemet and especially San Jacinto. Not the nicest of areas. I would recommned French Valley, Temecula, or Murrieta. You will still get the dry desert heat and in a generally nicer area.

San Jacinto and Hemet have a great deal of minorities. That's good or bad depending on who you are really. Personally, I do not think you should go to either. Try the areas lovepeace has named.
...I'm envious that you live with all that rain and cold ha ha

I agree, Temecula & Murrieta are much nicer then Hemet or San Jacinto, no comparison. Even though they have both grown tremendously in the past few years. They are still very nice IMO. Seems that happens every where.

Ah but there are Canadian snow birds with second homes in Hemet! So that might be the draw.

The Hemet/San Jacinto Valley is sort of separated from the rest of Riverside County by the foothills - it's off the beaten track and not "on the way" to anywhere else - you have to intentionally go there. So it has a completely different culture than Temecula or Palm Springs. It was also marketed as a retirement community for many many years, so there is lots of housing for senior citizens.

Unfortunately those factors also mean fewer good jobs in the actual valley, and with housing prices falling everywhere, there's not much reason anymore to live in Hemet and commute elsewhere. So Hemet's economy is very different than the rest of the county.

With the unemployment rate so high in Riverside county right now, there is a lot of competition for retail jobs - so that might be a little tough for your wife.

I have family that has lived in the Valley for over a hundred years, so I understand the appeal!

My daughter drove thru Hemet on her way home from Palm Springs. She said it was ugly, depressing and smelled like sewage.

well obviously it smelled like sewage, its Hemet.
That area is also the meth lab capitol of the world. If you want a secluded area you should look into the Temecula wine country area or De Luz
