My husband I have been house hunting for almost six months now and our target area is Rancho Cucamonga. Our budget is around 350K and we were looking to find a house in "Independence", but the real estate seems has recovered rather quickly and the price has gone up. So ,just couple weeks ago, our agent suggested that we go check out some new communities in Fontana. We always keeps a open mind, so we went. The two communities our agents introduced us to are Heritage and Sierra Lakes. Both are nice, but I heard that the schools are not good plus the gusty wind and the hot weather in the summer. But if I had to choose between these two communities, I prefer the Heritage much more because of the Etiwanda school district. We currently don't have children but we are planing. So just the other day, we saw a house in RC but it is very close to 15 Freeway only two or three blocks from the Heritage in Fontana. My question is do I choose the house near the freeway to keep the RC name? Or get a house in Heritage and officially live in "Fontucky"? Same Etiwanda school district though... Help?

If you're so shallow as to allow the opinion of others to dictate where you'll live, then by all means, avoid the "F" word in your address.

And you'll have the "gusty wind and the hot weather in the summer" in Rancho Cucamonga also.

My nephew and his family used to live in Heritage. His 2 children attended Heritage Intermediate School with no problems.

Yeah, the weather doesn't change after you cross the 15. LOL.

When I lived in Alta Loma, the winds would occasionally keep me up at night, they can get bad.

To be annoyingly precise, hot weather in late Spring, all Summer, and well into Fall.

Hot, dry as a bone, lip chapping, skin cracking, electric shock inducing, blow your roofing off, ass-kicking winds in the Fall, guaranteed.

And sometimes in the Summer, Spring and Winter. But always in the Fall. Fontana is an old Indian word for "wind blows like a motherf***er".

Not really, but it should be.

The hottest temp I've experienced in Fontana is 113, back in July of 07. The lowest is 26, in January of 06. The heaviest wind gusts were 99, back in the Fall of 08, I think it was. Maybe 07. That's when I lost half my North facing shingles.

They were due for replacement anyway. Mother Nature simply provided the kick in the pants I needed to get three estimates and pick a good roofing company, which I did.

Are you too far south to have experienced that dusting of snow that Fontana got a few years ago?

Nope, I was well and truly dusted. That was the night it got to 26. Snowed during the following day as well. I'm near Slover & Cherry.
