I'll be soon taking up a job in Carlsbad, and we currently renting a place in San Bernardino. We don't want to move to Carlsbad, as my wife is attending college in San Bernardino, and she has classes 2 days a week.

Now we have couple of options in front of us and we need some advice around them.

1. Continue staying in San Bernardino and I commute daily to Carlsbad (approx 2 hr commute - not favorable)

2. Move to Murrieta or Temecula... rent an apartment, and I commute to Carlsbad. How is the traffic pattern from Murrieta/Temecula to Carlsbad on weekdays (I-215/15)?

3. Move to OC (Santa Ana or Irvine).. rent an apartment, and I commute to Carlsbad (I-5).

Any suggestions, considering the avg. traffic pattern towards Carlsbad?

Thanks!

Any suggestions from fellow forum members, who currently live in/around Temecula/Murrieta area and commute to Carlsbad for work?

I don't commute to Carlsbad, but live in Temecula, and a quick check of Google traffic (along with what I've been told by family living in Rancho Bernardo) tells me that you may have some slowing around the 15 and 78 interchange, but nothing too serious. I've only rarely hit traffic at different times on the 15 from the Temecula area.

I would not recommend commuting to Carlsbad from SB. That just sounds awful. As far as your wife taking classes in SB, I take night classes in Riverside and don't run into any serious traffic on the 215 going north.

I can't really say much about commuting down the 5 from south OC, but I hope the rest of this helps somewhat.

I currently live in Murrieta and commute to San Diego. Everyday I see (or hear on the radio about the slowdown on the 78). I am sure the 76 is not much better. It is really difficult to get from the 15 to the 5 Fwy in North county San Diego. Also on the way home you'll get to experience slow Traffic starting in Temecula on the 15, (especially when it is dark at 530 PM), which gets even worse on the 215 split where it goes down to 2 lanes.
