In the fall i'll be starting grad school at SDSU, but i live in Aliso Viejo. What will the commute be like? I'll be going at like 5 pm or so. Class will start at 7pm. Thanks!

Plan on 2 hours. Southbound 5 will be worse in OC than in San Diego.

Are you nuts? Or do you love driving? At least 2 hours, you will be late many nights too. Glue yourself to traffic reports because the littlest things will really back you up. Consider the 74 to 15 as an alternative if the 5 south closes down by Pendleton..which happens quite often with accidents. Once you pass Pendleton you have a lot of alternates like the 76,78,56 etc. Good luck and I hope you have a real fuel efficient car.

Thumbs down Don't bank on it working...

I have 2 people working for me in San Marcos (just off Twin Oaks Valley & 78: about 6 miles W of 15) who live near SDSU. Leaving work at 5:30 pm, they often get home at 7 pm if there is any kind of traffic or accident. Lots of construction on I-15 S. of Escondido contributes to the traffic woes... I don't think you could regularly make it from OC at 5 pm to San Marcos in 30 minutes, either. Sorry, but I have to agree with previous poster that your plan is nuts!

She is doing a reverse commute at 5PM.. the traffic southbound on 5 will be in Laguna Niguel and some 805 traffic at Sorrento Mesa, but otherwise it should be doable in 2 hours. The worst of it is northbound 5 from del mar -> o'side in the afternoon... she will be going southbound.

When I went to SDSU there were lots of people from OC there.. most part-time students (i.e. on campus 3 days a week)
