Growing up in the Scripps Ranch before it got turned into total suburban sprawl we couldn't seem to keep a pet cat for more then a year or two due to all the coyotes around there. You'd try to call them and get them to come in for the night but being cats they wouldn't always do it and then they became coyote food.

I live against a bit of a ravine (more like a big ditch you can't build anything on, lol) in Lemon Grove. They're pretty much always around. I can tell when they get in the yard as my dog gets territorial (growling, barking, pacing, etc) until they move on. Also, it keeps the stray cat population down. The neighbor behind me feeds the strays and said she's come outside to what looks like a cat exploded before, heh.

I'm sorry, but that article is ridiculous. The solution to the coyote problem is to euthanize or shoot them, nice....How about the solution is, keep your cat or dog indoors if you think there may be an issue with coyotes. After all, we're the ones bothering them, not the other way around.

Exactly!

My girlfriend always seems to have to deal with them in Rancho San Diego. Anyone who lives near Valhalla High School can attest. There are packs of them that roam the streets and frequent the neighborhoods. My girlfriend went hom one night a couple of weeks ago after work and saw a couple sniffing at and under her front door. They're in the city as well, I have seen them once or twice in Normal Heights.

we have family in clairemont, of all places...on the canyon. and they had problems w/coyotes in so much that they had more than one pet bunny killed at night.
Even with the bunny in a cage-though, importantly, each time was due to forgetting to 'lock' the cage door.

Anyway, after 3 or 4 rabbits, they decided to call it a day and get a small indoor dog.
problem solved. (:
