I just got approved for a 6 month lease in north pacific beach and the landlord is asking for first, last, and deposit upfront. That means that he wants 3 times the monthly rent = $5100 in advance for a 2 bedroom. Is that normal?

p.s. I know that ca law says a landlord cant charge more than twice the monthly rent as deposit, and i am moving July 1, so i would have to pay first months rent in a few days anyway, so I'm assuming that what he is asking is technically legal.
