We are moving to San Diego with an elementary school age child and are looking at various schools to make the right choice of location to buy a house. My child plays guitar and is very interested in soccer. He is also gifted academically. I need a school that not only has a GATE program but also encourages music and sports. I have looked at carmel valley area, penasquitos and a couple of private schools. So far,
1. La Jolla Country day
2. Carmel creek elementary
3. Adobe bluffs
4. Sage Canyon
5. Ashley falls
claims to meet the criteria but what I know is what the school tells me. If I cant afford house in that area, we dont mind living in a townhouse as long as he gets to attend a good school. Can you recommend some schools that meet the requirements.
Thanks.

So is your question:
1. what schools meet my criteria? or
2. where can I buy a house for $650k or less and have my child attend one of the schools you listed?

For reviews on the schools, check out www.greatschools.net. That may help you with a neighborhood.

We live in Penasquitos area. You can afford a 650K house around here. One of my neighbors just sold her house for something that is closed to your range. There are also 2 houses around the neighborhood that have the "For Sale" sign right now! Our children attended "Park Village Elementary School." Across from school is a park, biking/walking trails. Soccer practice takes place in that park every weekend! I know the school has GATE program, good music class, but am not so sure about the sport program. My kids weren't into sport that much . You should check it out!
