Hi
I am a 28 year old single professional women thinking of making the most of my dual citizenship (US and UK) by moving from the UK to the US. I've read a lot of good things about San Diego and I'm thinking this is the place for me! In particular maybe Hillcrest?
Could you please give me an idea of the best/worst places to live in San Diego? I'm a sociable person and currently live in London so I'd like to be somewhere which still has a busy vibe but with a more laid back feel. If that's possible!
I would appreciate any help or advice.
Thanks!

Hillcrest is a great place for a youngish person who wants a bit of an urban vibe while still living in a safe part of town plus it is very centrally located.

Hillcrest is also very gay. It's you're gay, Hillcrest is your place in San Diego.

No not gay, don't mind living in a gay area at all but is there any other areas you could recommend? That have the same kind of vibe but also a mixture of people.
Thanks

Depends on your housing budget and where you'll be working.

I like Hillcrest and I'm not gay. Nice urban feel, very walkable, and lots of good restaurants.

I am hoping to work in finance but I've read some stuff that the job market isn't very good, but I'm not going for another year so hopefully it will pick up by then.
Hillcrest seems nice and very urban, are the apartments very expensive there?
Thanks again!

You can get a nice 1 bd for about $1000. This place is within walking distance of everything:

Here's a popular Hillcrest website: An Urban Guide to Hillcrest, Metro San Diego's Hippest Community...and Beyond

Kensington, University Heights, Little Italy, and Ocean Beach may also fit the bill of being urban yet safe with a nice base of local businesses. They're all also walkable.

I agree with Oerdin. Also worth consideration would be something in Park West if you like to live close to Balboa Park and Downtown and would like see the ocean. But the planes passing by might be a problem.
