Yesterday I was walking my dogs in El Cajon and I looked down just in time to see my 6 month old Golden Retriever step on a black tarantula. I was wondering if she was lucky she didn't get hurt? A friend of mine used to have a brown one (not sure what kind) and he said it pierced his skin with its large teeth looking things...whatever their called. The tarantula kinda walked funny afterwards. I don't know how badly she hurt it. Then when we turned around and went by it again I kept my dogs away from it and it stuck it's two front legs out at us and someone told me this is what it does when it feels threatened. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.
Leah

Heck they were so big when we lived in the foothills of Glendora we could see them crossing the street in front of our house, pretty gross looking, but harmless...

In the process of cleaning out the dead grass on my Pompus plant, I uncovered a black taranchula. He was about 3 inches long and VERY black.I relocated him to another section of my property that I leave in its natural state. I live in Los Gatos (Northern California). Is this spider dangerous?

They are harmless to us! Several years ago I thought my, then very young, sons were playing a trick on their Mom and put a fake Tarantula next to my chair out on our lanai. Saying, "very funny but you're going to have to do a better job scaring your Mom" as I picked up theTarantula only to discover it was real! I can still picture me running aound the yard still clutching that poor spider - luckily I didn't harm it. My husband caught me on my third revolution around the yard and brushed the poor spider out of my hand - yuuuuck Ahhhh, Good Times, Good Times!
