Anyone been to Brooklyn Girl in Mission Hills yet? Have heard good things about it and been wanting to go. What about Prepkitchen in LI? I still like that place.

Brooklyn Girl. Yes was there. Its a gastropub, trendy in that sense. Nice atmosphere, relaxed. Few menu items that were interesting, but is simple, creative in that Cafe Chloe kind of way. Like I said bistro-ish/gastropubish. Straight out of Sunset Magazine for interior design.

Calling a place Brooklyn Girl and having Matzo Ball soup on the menu is a must to have. It was pretty good! WAY better than the horrific Matzo soup I had at our 'deli', DZ Akins let alone City Deli.
While its not anything like a decent deli in LA like Nate and Al's or just about any in NYC, it was enough to make me go back in case I wanted any
Methinks, she would get an honorary Jewish seal of approval.

Basically this is a perfect neighborhoody place, put in the right area there in MH. Locals hangout for sure.

Spouse went to Brooklyn Girl and said good but not great (like most restaurants like this in SD) despite buzz. She likes Cucina Urbana. I think CU is mediocre-ok. My palate is more refined for 5-star than hers. In SD, I prefer the lower brow venues: Saffron, In-n-Out, MXN, Leftys, Coops, Blue Water, Karl Strauss,

From your reviews, it sounds like BG is worth trying out. And simple is fine, as long as it's good.

Boy that's the truth, while my wallet and common sense has spooked me a bit from 5 star (my palette is a 100% in though, if somehow, someone else, not on my bank account were buying ) I know ethnic and cheap eats are the way to go in San Diego. I do like gastro pub fare ala farm to table but I have had better in other cities and for less. Things will look really terrific in some menu descriptions..but tasting it....meh just ok. I've had a few nice little bites
from Alchemy and Counterpoint (since they seemed to have gotten a new chef) but the dishes that left me really excited have been modest places where people don't speak English ( and no this is just not Mexican places)
