Well, it doesn't happen every year, just like big earthquakes don't happen everyday.Everywhere in the U.S. has dangers to deal with like floods, blizzards, hurricanes, and Tornados.

Here we have earthquakes and wildfires, but as long as you take proper precautions, you will be fine. Plus Tornados, floods, and hurricanes occur far more often than sizeable earthquakes or devastating wildfires. The last big wildfire here was in 2007. Wild fires usually occur in fire season which usually starts in October. That's when the warm dry santa-ana winds blow in from the desert.

You are right about that. The fires and earthquakes are unpredicatable. What makes the fires unpredictable is the speed of the winds, the direction of the fire and how dry/wet the air is.

Earthquakes are unpredictable because you don't know when they will hit or how big and how long they will be.

For fires, just make sure you clear 100 feet of brush from around your property and make a plan of where to go, and what to take with you if you ever have to leave. Also you should stock up on water and flashlights. In the 2003 and 2007 Firestorms, power was out for a whole week, meaning no water for many people too so you had to rely on water bottles and flashlights.

For earthquakes, you should also stock up on first aid kits, flashlights and water.

You can't live your whole life with fear.

Yes, the good far outweights the bad. The thing about the fires though is that, it affects you deeply. Anytime a small fire is started somewhere in the area, that thought of "is it going to happen again?" comes into your head.
