I hear of people moving to Arizona to get relief from arthritis which seems to be aggravated by cold damp climates. So I was wondering about S.D.'s climate and how it would effect someone with degenerative arthritis. Does anyone have any family experience with this?

My understanding is that cold sets off arthritis so the weather here should help people who suffer from arthritis. Generally there isn't much damp (though we get about 10-12 inches of rain per year on the coast depending on if you're in the foothills or right on the coast but the mountain areas get up to 40 inches) while the temperatures, especially along the coast, stay very mild all year round. The yearly average is about 72 degrees F.

Other than overnight, it's usually warm, especially a couple of miles from the coastal fog.

I'd be curious to hear from long time residents. My mom was an arthritis sufferer living in Madrid, Spain. I remember her doctors recommended spending time at the Mediterranean shore to alliveate arthritis symptoms. She always said she felt better by the sea. Since San Diego's climate is also Mediterranean I would asume it should be a good place for arthritis sufferers.
