i am considering moving into a 1b/1b house in North Park for $1,100/month. It is across the street from Henry's Market. Is this one of safer areas in North Park?

You can search San Diego crime stats here: San Diego Regional Crime MAPS

North Park is alphabetically listed in the San Diego jurisdiction.

I personally don't think it's the best area...I lived a bit further down towards Polk a while ago and found petty crime to be very common on Georgia St. (car break-ins, theft of plants/bikes from front yards), and the street parking is very lacking because of all the apartment conversions. I couldn't wait to get out of the area. Does the house at least have an off-street driveway? If not, you'll be regretting the long walks home at night.

It's fine. Parking's a PITA but that's true of any part of North Park. I lived a block from there on Georgia and never had a plant stolen off my porch (and I had many plants on my porch!). You don't wanna leave your bicycle out front in ANY part of central San Diego.

Totally fine, you won't be too far from Hillcrest. If it's a house, you should have off-street parking, otherwise that's the only issue I see.

I walked by Henry's Market tonight, and didn't feel the least bit concerned for my safety. It's an average urban area - not primo like Mission Hills, but not problematic like City Heights. There will be a certain amount of property crime, but no more nor less than any other urban area.

If you don't have a driveway, be prepared to be very frustrated looking for parking places, and also have long walks.
