Hello, I saw another thread similar to this in 2006, but things could change. My husband and I, no kids - will be moving to S.D. I just need a simple layout of what to avoid. I understand Logan Heights is a no.

Basically, we don't need a snooty area. Nor do we just want a neighborhood with only white people (which we are). It be nice to have Asian, black or Hispanic neighbors. Basically, we want to be able to walk around at night and feel safe. A simple - not too expensive area to live with middle class families is ideal. We plan to rent, until we are able to buy in the future.

Thanks!

San Diego is very spread out. Where will you be working? What's your rental budget?

We don't know yet... that's not an issue at the moment. I understand that you can reach each side of town within 30 minutes. I just would like to know what areas describe what I'm looking for.

I would say La Mesa is a good fit based on your description

Parts of Mira Mesa are blah, others are OK. I would only consider it if it were extremely handy to your work, for instance. I lived there for years and never realized until I moved closer in (Kensington) how far away MM is.

Wait until you get a job, then decide what area you want to live in. Like Cruitr said, San Diego is very spread out, and it's a lot easier to give advice if we know where you'll be working, and what your rental budget is.

I don't consider Logan Heights a "no". I live in Golden Hill, which is the neighborhood next to Logan Heights. It's a colorful neighborhood, with a heavy Latino neighborhood. People who think Logan Heights is unsafe are probably just afraid of how Latino it is. It actually has a pretty low violent crime rate, and we walk around there frequently.
