Mosaic Wine bar on 30th in North Park is artsy fartsy. The Adams Avenue district in Normal Heights has a number of bars and coffee houses of various types that miht fit your interests.

The Bamboo lounge on University and Normal in Hillcrest is great.

I'm never certain exactly what people mean when they say "artsy". Like, folk music and patchouli? Or asymmetrical hair and obscure tastes in beer? Or punk-rock music with local art on the wall? Or wine-bar classy?

Yeah, I was trying to figure that out, too! And then when some suggested Adams Ave, I got even more confused since I live in the area. Lestat's is the most "artsy" place that I can think of, but it's only a coffeehouse. Do Ken Club, Blind Lady, Lancers, Kadan, Air Conditioned, Small Bar qualify? Those are more hipster to me.

Exactly. Except maybe blind lady, that's more grown up than hipster, so it could fall into an "artsy" category (the second one I listed). Ken Club isn't exactly hipster, either, it's where the 40-year-old punks hang out and drink tall cans because that's what they grew up drinking and it's cheap instead of because it's ironic (I know, I was there to see Tiltwheel and Samiam for New Year's). Kadan is kinda just trashy- it's 3 blocks from my house and I never go there. I haven't stepped foot in Lancers for years, but I can see that and Air Conditioned being kinda "hipster-ey"

But see, some people's definition of "artsy" might actually *be* hipster- some of the hipsters are in bands and do crafts and stuff

(and yes, I am being contrary for the sake of it)

i guess just nerds who listen to great music, admire the simpler things in life like random nostalgia over the newest ipad, yes there's a fine line between artsy and hipster, and i'm sure anywhere i go i'll get a mixture of both, but i'm prepared for that, haha

Well, that certainly narrows it down.
