I'm single 32 year old considering a move from DFW to San Diego for a job opportunity just south of downtown. Of course, going from such an inexpensive area to an expensive area is somewhat of a concern, though I am most concerned about being a dog owner. I currently own a 5 bedroom, 3300 sq ft home here in Dallas and have 3 pugs. We have lots of room, which is ultimately how I ended up with three dogs! ha! From what research I've done online, I see that housing for a similar price to what I pay for my mortgage now is MUCH smaller - as in a 2 or 3 bedroom condo! I absolutely could not be without my wonderful dogs, but I wonder how difficult it's going to be for me to relocate with pets. I'd love some insight/advice whether good or bad news.

Thank you so much!

Well I'm not sure how many condos are pet friendly, but the city as a whole is very dog-oriented. San Diego has a lot of dog parks and beaches, and many areas allow dogs to come into stores. Since it is expensive to own in San Diego, dogs must be allowed in many condos and apartment complexes, especially pug-sized dogs (by the way, there is a very active pug rescue here in San Diego . . . one day I was walking my two dogs in Harry Griffen Park in La Mesa and they were having an event there - - I've never seen so many pugs in my life!).

You shouldnt have that much of a problem finding an apt/condo that allows dogs. I've been looking for cheap apartments for awhile and 1/3 of them allow pets. They definitely have to be well behaved. Almost every day i see and hear dogs.

All the dogs I seem to meet are very friendly, and smell good too!

We have 2 Bulldogs and are living in our 3rd place now in San Diego. We haven't had any issues finding dog-friendly houses/apartments.

The city itself is extremely dog friendly, with tons of parks, beaches, restaurants that allow dogs, and dog events all over the city. This is definitely the place for dogs!

Thank you, everyone!

I've been very active with the DFW Pug Rescue, so I'm excited about the prospect of continuing that in SD! Pugs tend to be very well behaved. Mine can be mischievious at times (typically doing things like rifling through my suitcase or knocking my purse off of a chair), but doing cause damage or things landlords care about.

You've made me very excited to consider the next steps! Enjoy the weekend!

There are several beaches and parks dedicated to dogs, where they can roam free.

Many other parks welcome dogs, but they must be leashed.

The SD Padres play in Petco Park. How cool is that?

Once a year (I think) they have a bring-your-pet-to-the-game day.

Yeah, SD and SoCal in general are very dog friendly places.

And they also have adoption events at the park from time to time.

I'm getting more and more excited about the possibility of moving there now! I think my pugs would love going to the beach AND being able to take walks year round (they can't on 100 degree days since even at night it's too hot for them). I also found the San Diego pug rescue mentioned above. They are very active and have events every month!

Thank you all so much! I love the pic!
