We are doing a whole-house remodel here in San Diego (500+k job, adding 2nd story). We are starting to look at finishes. Any tips on places in San Diego to find good deals on everything from tile, sinks, toilets, flooring, appliances, etc? Willing to travel for a good deal! If you know of places to get design inspiration, please do tell! Thanks.

Wow, with that budget, you should really hire an Interior Designer.
As far as cheaper places to shop, there's Costco, Sears outlets, Craigslist. Online sources like Overstock, Amazon, eBay.
Places of inspiration: Houzz.com and hgtv.com

Do you live in Bay Ho or Bay Park? I live in that area and see lots of homeowners doing major upgrades in the past year or so.

For design inspirations, my wife and I watch DIY Network: DIY Network - Home Improvement How-To & Projects
It's channel 217 on Time Warner cable. You can also watch a lot of videos at their website.

Also, we go on all the local garden walks. Most owners love to show you their homes too. Here's the upcoming Mission Hills garden tour:

For tile go with Dal-Tile Dal-Tile Corporation

I got a good deal on my tile. There's a dealer in Esco somewhere.

^^^^ I agree with HTNSPZ. If you are going to invest that kind of money into a remodel, get professional help. Even if you're design choices are pretty solid, with a job that big you could still easily make a 10k dollar mistake. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be strictly DIY.

I spoke to the staff at Dal-Tile and thought I got some good advice.

DYI is fine but this type of remodel I would suggest finding some help.
Little things that the DYI's do not know of or think of can end up costing you in the long run.

I know this because I own a remodeling company that also does design work and had to go in a fix problems for DYI's. At a pretty penny some times.
