You need to call up an internet service provider.

In Mission Valley it's mostly Time Warner Cable or AT&T.

They have multiple tiers of service and they will provide the modem you require to use the internet.

I also live in Mission Valley and have used both providers. I found that with Time Warner, the modem would reset itself quite often (multiple times a day). AT&T so far doesn't reset itself.

^ i don't know if the resetting thing is a good thing or bad lol

i don't want to get a home-phone number, so i guess i have to go with at&t
though a lot of people are saying sh*t about them.

It is very easy. The first thing you need to figure out is if you want to get CABLE INTERNET (very good, a little expensive) or DSL (works through phone lines, not as reliable as cable, can be as fast if you pay a lot). I would strongly recommend Cable internet.

Here is a link for Cox Internet, they serve your area:

High Speed Internet Services, Broadband ISP serving San Diego | Cox Communications

You contact them and they will arrange to get your connection up and running.

Here is the local numbers for cox:

I agree, Cable internet is the best in SD. I've got TW and outages are rare. I've got a home office so I can't afford to have it down.

If you go with any of the ISPs they will do everything. All you have to do is logon. In the mean time if you have a wireless card your neighbor may have a hot spot

No, for cable internet you use your existing CABLE TV connection (you will need a splitter which probably comes with the setup package you buy from COX...modem, cables, etc), no need to get a phone line for CABLE INTERNET. With basic cable I am pretty sure you get local channels, at least I do (cox cable).

And be careful when you call up to order service, they will try to sell you all sorts of stuff.
