My cousin got accepted to UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Davis, but she got rejected from SDSU. According to all the rankings, SDSU should be easier to get in based on SAT/ACT and GPA. Are the budget cuts affecting the enrollment standards?

Almost certainly, budget cuts are affecting acceptance rates.

But university acceptance has always been based on more than just test scores.

I'm by all means not a smart guy at all. I got my high school diploma, through an adult school program.
I pretty much went through a community college, for two years. got my associates degree, then transferred to SDSU.
If an idiot like me can get in. I'm pretty sure your cousin should be getting in no prob.

I think CSUs were affected a lot more by the recent budget cuts than the UC schools. I also think SDSU has some sort of preferential treatment for applicants who live in San Diego.

Yes, to a degree. Because of so many cut backs the state schools are not accepting nearly as many new students as the universities are. Plus it isn't as easy to get into the top state universities today as it was 5, 10 or more years ago.

How many years ago was that? It certainly hasn't been in the last couple of years I would guess. Plus you are talking transferring, which is always easier than entering as a freshman.

Pretty sure they got rid of that very recently, I remember seeing a news story on it in the U-T.

All three of those UC's are better schools than SDSU anyways.

San Diego State is one of the most applied to colleges in the country. It's a numbers game.

Not true anymore, and anyway it depends on what the person is majoring in.

I read somewhere recently that SDSU is one of the most applied-to universities in the country. As in, more people want to go there than almost any other school. That means they can be really selective and pick only the cream of the crop. I graduated from SDSU in 1994 and I'm pretty sure (hell, I'm almost certain) that I wouldn't get in if I applied today with the same transcripts.
