Maybe also Solana Beach? Ocean Beach? (I don't live in either neighborhood, so I can't say for certain.)

Yes and yes.......

Are Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Leucadia still considered seperate towns or has it been swallowed up by Carlsbad/Encinitas these days?

Encinitas certainly, specifically Cardiff by the Sea an Leucadia as already noted. Solana Beach not so much. Carlsbad is more of a surf town than Solana Beach. I guess Ocean Beach is one too, although I'm not that familiar with it.

As far from PB and Oceanside as you can get, meeting in the middle is where you want to be. The closer to PB or oceanside, the most testosterone you will encounter.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned imperial beach. It's rather laid back, but I guess not really artsy.

yeah but the people that hang out in Oceanside and PB are dumb lol.

Driving huge trucks and acting really stupid. I am far more mature and smarter than that. so I want to be around smart people.

The people are no Smarter in solana beach or encinitas, I assure you. They just have different tastes. When I think "laid back surfer", smart is the last thing that comes to mind.

The point of my post was you want to be as FAR AWAY FROM pb and oceanside possible. Which would place you right in encinitas, etc.

oh ok. hahaha. I thought you were saying something else. I was going to say....what I meant really was that PB and Oceanside aren't really "do whatever you want". They are more like getting drunk all the time places and that's just not the type of guy I am. I like culture and just chillin'.
